    1. Same here! Though it’s even cooler with the whole context.

“Wish it need not have happened in my time,” said Frodo.

“So do I,” said Gandalf, “and so do all who live to see such times. But that is not for them to decide. All we have to decide is what to do with the time that is given us.”

      1. It is, but that’s a little lengthy in the large text. It’s probably my second-favorite quote though. Coincidentally, my favorite quote regards Gandalf as well. It goes like this:

“By some curious chance one morning long ago in the quiet of the world, where there was less noise and more green, and the hobbits were still numerous and prosperous, and Bilbo Baggins was standing at his door after breakfast smoking an enormous long wooden pipe that reached nearly down to his woolly toes (neatly brushed)—Gandalf came by. Gandalf! If you had heard only a quarter of what I have heard about him, and I have only heard very little of all there is to hear, you would be prepared for any sort of remarkable tale.”

        -J.R.R. Tolkien, ‘The Hobbit’

I’m not quite sure why I enjoy that quote so much— perhaps because it’s laughable and lighthearted, which is often the best sort of writing.
